DMS Integration
A DMS integration is a connection between the dealer management system and another piece of software — a portal, lender, parts supplier, or accounts package — so data flows automatically instead of being re-typed.
A DMS rarely operates in isolation. It needs to talk to the outside systems a dealer or workshop already relies on — and how well it does that is often the real difference between platforms once you get past the feature list.
Common integrations to check for
- Advertising portals — pushing stock listings to sites like AutoTrader automatically
- Finance and lender systems — for eContracting and proposal submission
- Parts suppliers — live pricing and ordering without leaving the DMS
- Accounting software — so invoices and payments sync without double entry
- Vehicle data providers — for valuations, history checks, and specification lookups
- Telematics and DVHC tools — pulling inspection or vehicle health data straight into the job
What to ask a vendor
Ask whether an integration is a genuine two-way API connection or just an export/import file you have to run manually. The second kind looks the same on a feature list but creates far more day-to-day admin.
